Samurai Village Tours: visit the village site where many scenes from 'The Last Samurai' were shot.
Your tour begins with a drive through a New Zealand sheep and beef farm to where the Samurai Village was created.
Some structures have been recreated on the original site, which are complemented with in-depth photographic displays and props.
Your tour guide will give you a commentary of how the set was built and all the land owners' experiences during the filming.
The tour, which takes approximately one and a half hours, will also allow you to have your photo taken where Algren (Tom Cruise) and Katsumoto (Ken Watatnabe) spent 7 weeks filming for 'The Last Samurai'.
Also available, for groups of 20 people or more, is a display by the Gumboot Gully Movie Stunt Horses. They were formed after the filming of 'The Last Samurai'. Chris and his daughter, Shannon, were employed by the Horse Department
and supplied 12 horses for filming. The horses quickly became conditioned to gunfire, explosions, battle charges and weaponry, which paved the way for further training as stunt horses. 'Cash', one of the main falling horses in the movie, was also acquired.
A show, which takes approximately 45 minutes, has come together with horses and riders performing stunts as seen in the movie. Horse rides are also available. Have your photo taken on one of the movie horses.
Also available (10 minutes away) is a guided tour of the White Cliffs Organic Brewery. Visit there to indulge yourself with world class Premium beer, Fruit wines and Gourmet food. Morning teas, lunches or dinners are available. Fully catered from the Giant Wok with Seafood Delights. A taste for all.
